About Nigel

Nigel is 53 years old & comes from Kent, in the Southeast of the UK. He is a British Cycling Level 3 Accredited Coach. For 25 years from the age of 11, he was a regional-level club athlete, competing in track, road & cross-country events. An untimely broken ankle forced him to retire from competitive running and seek an alternative endurance sport, a path which led him to his first ‘open’ cycling event in 2008.

He has competed in time trials (a staple of the UK competitive cycling scene), criterium (circuit) racing, and Sportives, supplementing these events with multiple training trips to the Alps, Majorca, Corsica & the Canary Islands plus various Sportives, including the Tour of Flanders & Liege Bastogne Liege Sportives (held the day before the Pro races).

In 2015 he moved to India to support a career move for his wife and took the opportunity to formally convert his years of training & competition into a recognizable coaching qualification. He achieved Level 3 (the highest recognizable British Cycling Accreditation) in 2019.

He has supplemented his ongoing Coaching Education by completing a Sports Nutrition Course with the American College of Sports Medicine, via the Exercise Science Academy in Mumbai; completed various online tutorials and courses hosted by British Cycling and UK Sport (including the essential “Coaching Clean” course) and recently (2022) attended a 2-day ‘Body-Positioning’ (bike fitting) course learning the techniques and practices developed by Tony Corke and recognized by the IBFI.

Initially working with Scott-India in supporting their young athlete program, the relationship developed such that in 2019 he helped secure a multi-year corporate sponsor so that for the first time a fully supported structure & process was put in place for a fully funded Development Racing Team (which ultimately succumbed to the difficulties presented by the Coronavirus pandemic).

Nigel has a diverse client base, across multiple disciplines and abilities, from beginners to National Level medallists. He runs indoor ‘turbo’ training classes for individuals and groups at the SportsMed Activ (Parel) gym. He has had various coaching articles published in magazines and online sites and has been a guest speaker at various events, including twice at the Indian Cycling Festival.

He continues to race in India, both in Masters and ‘Open’ Elite events, attaining numerous wins and podiums.

Nigel thrives on sharing his knowledge and combining it with the enthusiasm of the Indian cycling community. His ultimate goal is to create a robust, corporate-sponsored pathway to enable aspiring, talented youngsters to live and race in his native homeland.
