Frequently Asked Questions
1. What do I need for a remote coaching plan?
You’ll need a Training Peaks account (where I issue the sessions & where you upload your session data for evaluation). You’ll also need a heart rate monitor (with chest strap), a cadence sensor on your bike & the ability to measure power either through a power meter or smart trainer. You’ll also need a bike computer.
2. How frequently are the sessions issued?
They are issued in blocks of 4 weeks/one calendar month at a time.
3. How do you feedback on the sessions?
I write in the comments section of the TP platform for each session where necessary. Once a month we’ll have a planned telephone/FaceTime call.
4. Where are indoor group sessions run?
The SportsMed Activ gym in Parel. We have 4 Wahoo Kickr trainers & 3 bikes (sizes 52/54).
5. What do I need for an indoor session?
Assuming you fit one of the bikes, you’ll need cycling shorts, shoes (with Shimano SPD cleats: all 3 bikes are fitted with SPD pedals. We also have one set of Look Keo pedals), a towel & water bottle. You’ll also need the Wahoo App on your phone.
6. Can I bring my own bike for the indoor session?
Yes, if it’s a road bike with rim brakes & a Shimano 10 or 11-speed cassette, no problem! If it has disc brakes, then we’ll need an adapter (& we only have one).
7. Do you run indoor sessions on a 1:1 basis?
Yes, but financially it makes sense to be in a group of 2 or 3 (groups are more fun!)
8. What do I need for a bike fit?
You will need to bring your bike, your cycling shorts & cleated cycling shoes to the SportsMed Activ gym in Parel. We’ll also need to get the bike on one of the Kickr trainers (check with me first). If you’re not using cleats, I can’t provide a bike fit.
9. How long does a bike fit take?
A. Usually 2 hours for a ‘Stage 1’ Fit (this includes checking your cleat position, then working through saddle height, stem length, handlebar height, and saddle set-back).
B. A ‘Stage 2’ Fit takes 3-3.5 hrs and includes the option of trying different saddles and fitting an adjustable stem to explore a more exact set-up.
10. What else do you provide?
Nutrition plans for training/events. I can share details of the cycling/training trips I’ve undertaken in Europe as well as help with racing/training in the UK.
